In 2013, the appearance of the first Titan over the walls took the entire anime-verse by storm. Attack on Titan (AOT) played on the very sense of anticipation — any major character death or huge twist was possible.
Hajime Isayama should be lauded for creating such an unpredictable manga, but AOT only became a global sensation when WIT Studio’s visuals and Hiroyuki Sawano’s soundtracks breathed life into its extremely solid panels.
Yet, by the time Season 2 was released in 2017, the hype had almost died down.
Despite that, the series managed to completely shatter its stereotypical shonen vibe, gradually shifting the focus from Titans beyond the walls to humanoid-Titans within the walls and then, to the entire humanity beyond the walls.
Attack On Titan has broken all the records, even becoming one of the most watched shows across the United States.
With such an expect fanbase and since the next part is also the finale for the show, everyone keeps on wondering when Attack on Titan: Season 4 – Part 3 will release.
When is Attack on Titan: Season 4 Part 3 Coming Out?
So far, the studio responsible for adapting Season 4 of AOT, MAPPA, has only released a 15 seconds teaser and a poster.
Attack on Titan: Season 4 Part 3 will be coming out in 2023. An exact air date is not yet clear.
Previously, AOT has released its subsequent seasons at different intervals, making use of fall, spring, and even mid-summer timelines.
However, Seasons 1-3 were adapted by WIT studio. Meanwhile, the MAPPA-adapted Season 4 – Part 1 & 2 aired on December 2020 and January 2022, respectively.
Even though we hope the AOT finale will premiere in January 2023, keeping in mind the MAPPA tradition, Attack on Titan will most likely begin to air its final part in fall 2023 onwards.
That said, the series shouldn’t be delayed further from 2023. After all, WIT had to drop AOT only because it couldn’t schedule its release within the given time frame.
Is Attack on Titan Season 4 Part 3 a Movie?
Earlier, it was rumored that the AOT finale will be adapted into a movie.
However, this will not be the case.
You see, Season 4 – Part 1 covered manga chapters up to 117, and Part 2 continued till chapter 130. There are at least 9 chapters left to be adapted.
So, it’s safe to assume that the Season 4 finale will consist of around 10 episodes. Even if MAPPA stretches the final part out, it’s hard to see how it will go beyond 12 or 13 episodes.
What is Attack on Titan: Season 4 – Part 3 About?
While we do have manga to satiate that curiosity, it’s hard to explain without going into significant spoilers that ruin the show’s ending.
That said, reading any further may spoil what’s already been adapted. So, if you haven’t watched previous seasons, proceed at your own discretion.
The teaser for AOT: Season 4 – Part 3 shows all the expected protagonists in a footprint left by some Colossal Titan. The bleak background music seems perfectly aligned with the already set remorseful and post-apocalyptic themes of Season 4.
We can also predict that Armin will lead all the surviving characters (Mikasa, Jean, Connie, Levi, Hange, Annie, Pieck, Falco, Gabi, and Reiner) through one final mission.
But, as it’s the finale, each character will (hopefully) reach the climax of their arcs and stories.
Interestingly, Levi is seen equipped with his ODM gear. So, despite his injuries, he might still participate in the battle.
Furthermore, we cannot dismiss the potential role of Zeke as he’s still stuck in the Coordinate. For the same reason, Floch cannot be disregarded as he was shot by Gabi but his injuries didn’t seem fatal.
The last episode from Season 4 – Part 2 showed conflicted memories from Mikasa’s past. So, she will likely try to sway Eren from his current mission. But the Rumbling has already started, so even if Eren spares humanity, he will still be rendered a criminal. But we can still expect some closure for the centuries-old conflict between Marley and Paradis.
AOT has managed to bring the past, present, and future into one perspective. We anticipate a riveting and entertaining grand finale.
