It's happening. We're done with weekly challenges for Season 9 of Fortnite: Battle Royale, we've got all the Fortbytes on the table, and it's time to turn our attention to the grand finale. At the beginning of the season, a bunch of sky platforms showed up in the game to serve as this season's unique buildings. A few days ago, a countdown appeared over each of them, running down to this Saturday, July 20, at 2:00 PM Eastern. While there are certainly mysteries yet to be unveiled about what exactly is going to happen when the countdown ends, we actually ahve quite a bit of information about what's going to happen. So don't read on if you want to be surprised.

Let's back up a second. You may remember Polar Peak, the proud castle that once towered over the ice biome. It turns out there was a monster living inside of that mountain, because earlier in the season we got to see its giant, yellow eye peeking out through the ice. Shortly after that it busted right out, taking the castle with it and retreating to the sea, where it could be seen swimming around. Since then it's come ashore to smash up some houses, but we haven't seen much more of it in person.

The monster is known as Cattus.

While that's been happening, Pressure Plant began to reveal its true purpose. About halfway through the season it was revealed to be a robot factory, and little drones have been slowly assembling a colossal mecha inside of it and just finished the other day, revealing an incredible bear-like beast of a machine that's easily larger than any single thing we've seen in the game so far. It's pink, too, which is just adorable.

The robot is known as Doggus.

And that's the conflict: Doggus vs. Cattus, a colossal battle on a scale that the game has never seen before. It's still unclear whether players will be able to play an active role in this conflict or whether we'll just be cheerleaders, but we do know that we'll be able to equip special banners to show our support, and thanks to the new "banner brigade" skins, we'll be able to wear those banners on our characters, as well. The whole thing will go down in an LTM on Saturday in much the same way as recent events like the Marshmello concert and the Unvaulting/Volcano thing.

Everything promises Fortnite's grandest event yet, which seems to be the case more or less every time Fortnite has an event in its particular quest to top itself. Aside from those basic events, there's only one thing we can say for certain, and that's that something else will happen at the end of it. These events have two parts: the grand finale to the season, and the lead into next season. It's still unclear what the lead in to next season will be, so stay tuned.
