Have you been playing Fortnite on a very old PC? Well, it's finally time to upgrade your graphics card as Epic Games has announced support for DirectX 11 will be required as a minimum going forward.
The Fortnite Team posted on the Epic Games website late last week to inform players that with the start of Season 10, Fortnite will require DirectX 11 to run. It means in order to keep on playing you'll need a graphics card or chip with DirectX 11 support.
Thankfully, this change should impact very few players considering how old DirectX 11 actually is. Microsoft first introduced DirectX 11 at the same time as the Windows 7 launch back in 2009. Since then it's received four major updates, with the last being in 2015. In other words, unless your PC graphics card is absolutely ancient, you'll still be able to keep playing Fortnite with the launch of Season 10.
We aren't expecting Epic Games to start Season 10 until mid to late July, which gives you a few weeks to check if your graphics card supports DirectX 11 and take action if it doesn't. Even the cheapest graphics cards today support DirectX 12, let alone 11, so you could pick up a Nvidia GeForce GT 710 for $45 or an AMD Radeon RX 550 for $80 and keep playing.
If you're enjoying the game on an ancient laptop, then it's a more expensive upgrade than simply changing out a card, but there are some great budget laptops that will play Fortnite. Alternatively, this could be the excuse you needed to invest in a gaming laptop.
