A new Fortnite leak is hinting at a possible upcoming event, one where players might be able to pilot mechs across the Island once more.
Epic Games is teasing a brand-new Fortnite event, one that might allow players to pilot a mech across The Island. Fortnite Chapter 3, Season 2 is drawing to a close as of this writing, and players are naturally wondering what Epic has in store for the next chapter of its ongoing battle royale blockbuster. More game-wide events are likely, as Fortnite has already been home to world-shattering calamities, live in-game Fortnite concerts from stars like Ariana Grande, and even the occasional movie tie-in like an ominous message from Emperor Palpatine in the run-up to 2019's Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise Of Skywalker. While some of these events are simple one-offs, others have dramatically shaped the world of Fortnite in profound ways.
This year’s Fortnite Chapter 3, Season 2 saw some pretty big changes in itself, such as the new Zero Build mode that removes the game’s fortress building mechanics and several new gameplay mechanics like Overshield, Shoulder Bash, and refined climbing and parkour. Fortnite’s latest chapter also saw the addition of new playable skins like the MCU’s Scarlet Witch, Robocop, and even real-life YouTuber Ali-A. Additionally, Fortnite’s previously available lightsabers were once again made available as part of this year’s Star Wars Day Celebrations. One notable element from past Fortnite seasons that was completely absent from Chapter 3, Season 2 was playable mechs, which were once available in Chapter One but were eventually vaulted. Now, a new Fortnite rumor claims that mechs might be making a comeback.
Earlier today, Fortnite’s official Twitter account posted a cryptic promotional video that called players to their “battle stations” and ended with an icon showing what looks like a robot’s head. Twitter user and Fortnite news leaker FortTory then shared some newly discovered audio of The Origin talking about how if a mysterious figure (who FortTory claims is referring to The Paradigm) “refuses to help, we will still need a pilot.” This cryptic Fornite dialogue leak has FortTory and many other Twitter users in the comment section believing that The Origin is referring to a mech in need of an operator - and that the players will get to serve this role if the Paradigm can’t. Some other commenters are already comparing this supposed Fortnite mech event to Chapter 2, Season 3’s battle against Galactus, which saw players piloting upgraded versions of Fortnite’s signature Battle Buses to fend off Marvel’s devourer of worlds.
There have been plenty of leaks and speculation about what Fortnite Chapter 3, Season 3 could entail, with the most recent being a possible crossover with Fall Guys. Another popular Fortnite rumor suggests Darth Vader could appear as the latest guest character skin, not too far removed from the return of the franchise’s lightsaber weapons. In the meantime, Fortnite has recently branched out into the realm of mobile devices thanks to Xbox Game Pass’s Cloud Gaming technology, and a new update allows PlayStation owners to seamlessly use V-Bucks that were purchased there while playing Fortnite on other consoles.
If players will really be able to pilot mechs once again, then Fortnite's Chapter 3, Season 3 might be an exciting time for fans of Epic's massively successful battle royale title. Some of the players who have commented on FortTory's leak post are begging The Paradigm to not show up for whatever event The Origin is referencing, just so they can be the ones to answer his call when the time comes. It remains to be seen if this call is indeed for someone to pilot Fortnite’s supposed new mech, so players will have to stay tuned for new developments as they unfold.
