Well, prepare to a little more burdened with a little more glorious purpose in Fortnite soon. It’s just been revealed that trickster god Loki is coming to the island as the upcoming Fortnite Crew skin for July.
It was leaked, then promptly announced on the Fortnite Twitter today with the following caption:
“It seems Mecha Cuddle Master wasn’t the only one who found their way to the Island. Looks like a trickster snuck his way through the portal and into the Fortnite Crew this July.”
The silhouette of Loki was teased alongside what looked like a new Thor skin in art last season, and it was a bit of a surprise when he didn’t show up in the battle pass. But Fortnite is once again using a popular character to lure people into purchasing the Fortnite Crew monthly subscription, like they previously did with DC’s Green Arrow.
Of course, the timing lines up, not coincidentally, with Loki airing on Disney Plus, currently three episodes into a six episode first season. The version being teased (we don’t have a full look at the skin yet) is of his traditional helmet with large horns, and it’s not likely that he’ll have Tom Hiddleston’s face, as none of Fortnite’s superheroes look like their actors exactly (the DC CW Green Arrow and Flash skins are sort of close, but masked).
I suggested an emote that transforms him into Loki variant Sylvie, like the show, but I’m certainly not expecting that. I would guess that he will obviously have his famous Coulson-killing staff as a mining tool. And I don’t know, maybe tesseract back bling?
We should likely see a full look at what the skin looks like soon, either through further leaks or an official reveal. I am also curious about the teased Thor skin, which may be coming to the store, and looked like a short hair version, from what I saw in the tease.
I still can’t really get behind buying the Fortnite Crew subscription, but these skins are getting more and more tempting with each offering, and soon I may not be able to resist. Which of course, is the entire point.
More to come as we get a larger look at Loki, so check back here for future updates.
