The world of Fortnite collaborations and leaks about those collaborations never ends, and today, I am finding two of my favored topics slamming directly into each other. German Fortnite leaker MidaRado posted a tweet yesterday that asked readers to guess which of four planned collaborations would be coming to Fortnite next week.
The options were Family Guy, DOOM, Lord of the Rings, and he went back and added Destiny in a follow-up tweet, saying he forgot it in the first list.
Naturally, as a Destiny die-hard and someone also dedicated to collecting as many absurdly diverse IP skins in Fortnite as possible, I am certainly eager to see how a potential Destiny 2 X Fortnite crossover would play out.
My guess is that while I love Destiny, and it’s certainly a big game, we would probably not see an ultra-huge-scale crossover event. Most of the other video game collaborations we’ve seen are just a skin or two. Kratos, Master Chief, Lara Croft, and some additional cosmetics. Bigger collabs may get in-game bonuses like Dragon Ball Z’s Kamehameha or Nimbus Cloud items, but my guess is Destiny 2 would probably end up with a couple of skins at most, and some cosmetics.
But what skins? Destiny 2 is full of NPCs, and of course customizable player Guardians, but here are my picks.
Zavala – I don’t think there is any more iconic character out of Destiny at this point than Commander Zavala, who has been a mainstay of the series for nearly eight years now thanks to Lance Reddick’s tireless performance. If there’s only one skin, it’s him. If there’s two, I think he’s one of the slots.
Cayde-6 – In the Destiny 1, Destiny 2 launch era, Cayde-6 was a huge part of Destiny, but he’s been dead since September 2018’s Forsaken expansion. If Bungie is doing this collaboration to promote current developments with the game, a character that has literally been content vaulted out of existence would be a weird pick. Though…Destiny fans would still buy him.
Ikora Rey, Eris Morn, Mara Sov – If we are doing maybe one male and one female skin, the way we often see from many Fortnite collabs, these are my three potential picks for the other slot. Ikora has been passed around as a name in past Fortnite skin interest surveys, and she’s had a resurgent role in the story lately. So has Eris Morn, and she’s personally be my pick. Mara Sov is another iconic Destiny character and (sigh) “the hot one,” so she would no doubt be considered.
Crow/Uldren – A Crow skin with an Uldren variant? No character has been more relevant to the story of Destiny the past year, and his tale continues with each new season. He’d be a good pick.
Shaxx - He’s not exactly story-relevant these days, but he’s an iconic character and he was in the character interest surveys as well.
Non-Human Characters – I think Caiatl just wouldn’t work with the hitbox, even if you jam her into being Thanos-shaped. Mithrax as a Fallen Captain could work, but I think there are just too many other IPs before they start doing Destiny aliens species for this. Well, maybe with one exception:
The Witness – Now here’s a fun idea I had. If this collab is next week, it’s about Bungie launching Lightfall, which features The Witness, a brand new villain we’ve only glimpsed. They could debut him as a skin and the plume of smoke coming out of his head gains more faces the more kills you get in a game.
Other Cosmetics – Pick any number of jumpships you could use as a glider. Backbling could be any of Destiny’s iconic guns, and it would probably depend on the character featured (someone should get Gjallarhorn, though). Mining tools could be swords or glaives or if we’re doing light weapons, the Hunter Arc Staff or Void Blades, the Titan Burning Maul and the Warlock Dawnblade Sword. If this collaboration went all the way to in-game items, I mean, there’s almost too much potential given the sheer number of weapons and supers they could draw on.
Anyway, this would be a pretty great collaboration, even if it ends up on the smaller scale side. As soon as something leaks, I’m posting it, and we’ll see if this does have anything to do with the Lightfall reveal next week, or if we’ll have to wait a while longer.
